"What's Happening on the Water 28/11/2018"

The weather was much kinder last weekend, which resulted in a good turnout of all classes in the harbour and river sailing for the Scows. Shaun Harris the Scow class captain swept the course prior to Saturday's racing in the river and found only a few link lines still attached. They were dealt with. Rory Barnes with the help of Richard Beasley organized a two day course in the harbour, working on the base settings for up wind sailing, which then can be powered up, or de-powered depending on the wave conditions. Also taken into account, were body positions and hiking techniques for both up wind and downwind sailing. The two day course combined six juniors and four adults on Saturday and similar numbers again on Sunday. Drew Barnes was the lead coach for both days. Also focussed on was general boat handling around a race course and how and when to adjust the controls, and in what order at the marks. Many will be pleased to learn that this will be repeated in the spring and will be in next year's Dinghy Programme. I have heard from those who took part, "it was a most fantastic coaching experience, and they are looking forward to the next time to learn more." It is excellent we have members who are willing to impart their experience to our up and coming juniors and others. It is much appreciated. Please note that the Class 5 AGM is this Friday at 7pm and the Hawk AGM is at 7pm on this coming Saturday Stuart Percival Sailing Secretary stuart@percivalpace.com |
