Cruiser Racing News.....

This Sundays race had an almost summery feel with moderate winds and sunshine. Six boats ventured out passing through the assembling dinghies having a multi club race.

Out to sea with a somewhat unsteady northerly wind the race team in Firefly anchored and set a good start line with some bias, all boats but one took advantage of this.

Lou Lou pulled even further ahead but got their just deserve as they had an awful last 100 m. Woolley Knickers and Kissy Wissy were luckier and had a decent run into the shore.

Kissy Wissy got through at the gybe mark having dropped their spinnaker early and extended this lead up the beat.

The Hawks also had a good battle with Firefly pulling through them both having started late due to being part of the start line. They are obviously getting used to their new boat with the spinnaker being flown soon after the reach commenced and kept flying all the way to the next mark.

All in all a great day. Next race is the Yarmouth passage race when the racing regulars will be joined by a number of cruising boats.

Scow Racing News.....

What a contrast!

Wednesday 21st saw 15 scows take part in Capers in very light northeries and an increasing ebb tide. Only five managed to cross the finish line between the committee boat and the mark with the rest either not reaching the line as the wind dropped to nothing, or drifting past outside the line. Congratulations to Clive Hindley in "Bubbles" first and Nick Mason in "Titch" second.

On Saturday 24th ten scows took part in the autumn series race again northerly but this time much brisker. A course with plenty of beats was appreciated by competitors (my apology for the wrong pen though...) and was won by Nigel Burt in "Lucky Duck " with Clive Sampson in "Little Bob" second.

Annual Inter Club Race Series 2022

The annual Inter Club Harbour series started on Sunday 25th. The breeze was from the north, always tricky for both sailors and committee as it tends to swing around by 5 or 10 degrees either side of true. Fortunately it was pretty steady at the starts. After 2 of the 4 races scheduled the Club positions were Christchurch on 167 points, Mudeford on 205 and Highcliffe on 271. Individuals were Tim Reid (MSC) on 2, Chris Arnell (HSC) and Simon Percival (CSC) on 6 and Alex Atkins (CSC) on 9. First youth was Ben Reid (MSC) 11th and 1st Junior Max Rayner (CSC) a place ahead in 10th.

The videos of the starts were interesting, one Finn was over in race 1 but there were some close calls. Race 2 was much more restrained as the tide was tending to push boats back.
