The club as received the attached e-mail from Christchurch Council, which we are passing on with the attached letters to any Junior and Youth members.

Subject: Opportunities for Graduates and School Leavers

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce Open Society and the Christchurch community Partnership, two organisations with a concern about the present situation facing recent University Graduates and School Leavers. Open – Society is a very new concept set up by three graduates who have set up a series of youth groups in London to offer opportunities for young people to further develop their skills, promote creative ideas of their own, enhance their cv’s, increase their local contacts and hopefully ultimately increase their employment opportunities as well as contributing to the local community.

This group is now working with the Christchurch Community Partnership to pilot a similar facility for young people in Christchurch and the conurbation. In order to make this happen, Christchurch Community Partnership would like to have your support in sharing the attached invitation from the chairman of the Partnership and members of open Society to join us on 27th September at 6.3 pm in the Christchurch Baptist Church off Bargates in the centre of Christchurch for an introductory chat and discussion on setting up a local opportunities for young people group.

Thanking you for your assistance,

Wilbert

Some people have reported the link above not working it seems OK to me, I have tried two different browsers  and no problem however if you do experience problems use the one below,

http://www.iwight.com/council/departments/planning/appsdip/planningonline.aspx

and search on Yarmouth.

The proposed rearrangement of Yarmouth is still causing concern to many.

I have received the following observations which you may wish to use to comment on the application. Unfortunately the closing date for objections is the 9/09/2010

http://www.iwight.com/council/departments/planning/appsdip/AppDetails3.aspx?frmId=21564

The harbour will be loosing berths for visitors, as they will be having so many more residents berth, the town will suffer.
We have to object to the planning application on navigational grounds, so have cribbed some notes from others and have copied them below

Planning Application Comments
Application Reference: TCP08161/R, P01050/10
Last date for comment:09/09/2010
Location: Yarmouth Harbour, the Quay, Yarmouth, Isle of Wight
Proposal: Reorganisation of berthing arrangement in the harbour resulting in navigational improvements, dedicated walk ashore berths for the fishing fleet and the relocation of the fuel and crane berths.

Yarmouth still needs our help, as the changes they want to put in still involve changes to navigation and the flow of the harbour, and most importantly there will be less space for visitors overall.  The town needs the throughput of visitors boats during the summer. More residents boats, will provide more money for the Harbour Commissioners but not for the town and the businesses in it.

We have to contest this application based on navigational points, so I have picked on up some relevant key points from another objector, and have listed them for you to change, add to, enhance as you wish.

•   The movement of the red piles/pontoon to the west, narrows the existing main channel.  This is the main channel and so reducing it to the narrowest fairway in the harbour is simply unsafe for small yachts to manoeuvre. This is also the area where the current runs fastest.  The natural fairway as it exists now needs to be preserved.

•   The introduction of a new fuel berth so close to the harbour entrance will be extremely difficult for yachts to berth in strong north and north easterly winds.  This part of the harbour can have heavy swells, making it difficult to move boats, and unsafe to refuel.  The current position for fuelling offers a sheltered berth, in an area where boats can safely turn round in.

•   By moving the existing ‘A’ row north, this will mean that all craft, including dinghies will have to use the main fairway.  Currently, if the harbour is busy, dinghies can move around between ‘A’ and the harbour wall.  These plans will mean all craft have to use the main fairway, which is busy now, and with the addition of a 4 berth fuel pontoon close to the entrance will make coming and going into the harbour challenging and unsafe for many yachts.

•   The introduction of a dinghy pontoon under the bridge will be dangerous to use.  The plans do not take into account the piling for the bridge on the eastern side, let alone the air height at high water.  This will make using it difficult and very restricted to use.

Chris and all your helpers at Christchurch

I'd like to join in the chorus of approval, great sailing, great social, great town and best of all, got handed a beer before I'd even rinsed the boat down!

Fantastic weekend!

Some feedback from the OK Class discussion forum and from a couple of facebook posts this week - thought you might like to see how our visitors felt about the Club...

Well done Chris and team. If your target was a happy fleet with very fond memories of Christchurch then you hit the bulls eye. I didn't hear one moan about the club, the organisation, the race management, etc, etc, etc. A faultless performance. Thank you.
Tony Woods.

Tony's words hit the nail on the head Chris!

It really was a fabulous event! So well organised, excellent racing, great town, friendly club and great food in a beautiful setting. The whole thing was run with such consummate ease by a terrific bunch of people, led by our very own Chris 'Dogsbody' Arnell. The atmosphere was superb, which for me means that everything was right.

When did you say we can come back Chris?

Please thank everyone involved again for us Chris? Maybe you could read out some of these messages to them?

Thanks again mate!

Mike
